For the first time in history, a session of the UNWTO General Assembly will be held in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The 25th anniversary session of the General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is expected to be held in Samarkand on 16-20 October 2023. It should be noted that for the first time in its history, Uzbekistan is hosting the UNWTO session, which is considered the most important event of the UN General Assembly system. The session is held every two years.

The event brings together heads of government agencies working in the field of tourism, international organizations and representatives of the tourism business from about 160 countries.

Today, heads of tourism organizations and departments from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Albania, Azerbaijan, the Bahamas, Bahrain, Guatemala, Haiti, Cote d’Ivoire, Indonesia, Monaco, Niger, Panama, Portugal, Sierra Leone, Ukraine, Uruguay and Yemen are expected to arrive in Samarkand..

It is worth noting that Uzbekistan has been accepted into the Credentials Committee of the UNWTO Executive Council for the next 2023-2027. This means that Uzbekistan is entrusted with the authority to monitor the authenticity and compliance with the principles of important decisions and documents adopted by the UNWTO Executive Council.

Such trust placed in our country at the international level shows not only the strength of our country’s position in the global tourism market, but also the effectiveness of its activities in international relations.

Holding the session of the General Assembly in Uzbekistan opens up new opportunities for increasing the prestige of our country in the international arena, further expanding the scope of cooperation with international organizations, and promoting the cultural and tourism potential of the country.

During the 25th session of the General Assembly, issues of international cooperation in the field of tourism will be discussed at plenary sessions and a number of other large-scale conferences.

In particular, at the Investment Forum, which is planned to be organized within the framework of the UNWTO, it is expected to attract targeted and targeted investments in our country, to achieve many important business agreements on the presentation of objects, territories, projects with high investment potential in all regions of Uzbekistan. The Forum brings together global stakeholders, industry leaders and investors to explore opportunities in the tourism sector and aims to showcase the favorable investment environment created in our country and a strong legal framework to attract foreign investment, as well as promote cooperation among participants.

During the main sessions at the Investment Forum, the goal was to form a positive opinion about the investment environment of our country in the world community, to increase the interest of large foreign investors in investing in Uzbekistan. As a result of the event, it is expected to contribute to sustainable development by increasing the volume of investments made in our country, further increasing the investment potential of our country and achieving strengthened cooperation between sectors at the global level.

At the same time, while preserving the rich cultural heritage and natural resources of Uzbekistan, it is planned to attract investments that will contribute to the economic growth of our country.

The education forum, expected to take place during the General Assembly session, will showcase the current state of education in the tourism sector, demonstrating how important it is to invest in skills development and creating inclusive opportunities for all.

The event will showcase the latest developments in each area, including complementary initiatives developed by UNWTO with leading academic partners in secondary, tertiary and management education, a suite of innovative educational tools and training in new disciplines in international sustainable tourism. The Forum’s comprehensive program aims to inspire and mobilize stakeholders, policymakers, professors and industry leaders for collective action.

In addition, as part of the event, UNWTO will announce the Best Tourism Villages of the year. For this purpose, tourist villages are selected from all over the world with a developed tourism sector, ensuring development and prosperity, aimed at ensuring the economic, social and environmental stability of the region while preserving the traditional way of life and values of the population. We are all pleased that a number of villages in our country are participating in this competition.

Holding the 25th anniversary session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the ancient city of Samarkand will introduce the world to the cultural, tourism, investment and intellectual potential of our country, and will serve to further strengthen international relations with the world community in the field of trade, economics, tourism and culture.
