Flood in Andijan region affects over 550 households

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 8 May, a rise in the water level of the South Ferghana Canal led to flooding in several neighborhoods (mahallas) of Buvayda District in the Andijan Region.

According to UzHydromet, a total of 560 households were affected by the flood.

Emergency response teams immediately launched cleanup and recovery operations at the scene.

Preliminary reports indicate that no casualties have been recorded among the population, and the extent of material damage is still being assessed.

In response to the situation, Uzbekhydroenergo JSC announced a complete suspension of water flow at the head of the South Ferghana Main Canal.

At present, relevant authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety and allow the unimpeded passage of water flows.

Local authorities, emergency services, and public utilities are continuing to coordinate efforts to stabilize the situation in the affected areas as quickly as possible.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), water entered around 100 homes as a result of the incident on the South Ferghana Canal.

Of these, 30 houses were flooded internally, while water reached the household plots of 70 homes.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations is continuing efforts to eliminate the consequences of the incident.
