The Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan has approved a program of measures to develop fisheries for 2009-2011, UzA reported.
This year, 60 farms have started fish breeding and production of diet meat.
Significant results are being achieved in supporting the fisheries and construction of artificial water basins in the region.
An Uzbek-Russian joint venture, Nukusbaliq, which opened in 2007 in Nukus district, provides farmers with small fish on a contractual basis.
“Our company has launched the incubation shop equipped with the most modern technology,” head of company Nurmuhammad Primbetov said. “Artificial water basins have been created on 54 hectares, which allows us to deliver 50 million small fish per year. This year’s production has made 30 million so far.”
Since the beginning of the year, the enterprise has delivered 115 tonnes of diet meat to Tashkent, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Navoi, Samarkand, Surkhandarya and Khorezm regions.
