Festival of South Korean kimchi takes place in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Festival of South Korean kimchi was held in Tashkent. It was organized by Uzbekistan KOPIA center led by Ahn Heesung, which implements investment projects in agriculture sector in Uzbekistan.

The wide-scale event familiarized citizens of Uzbekistan with technology of preparing legendary dish of Korean traditional cuisine.

Representatives of Embassy of South Korea in Uzbekistan, Uzbek scientific-production center for agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan, Center for Education of Korea in Uzbekistan, KOICA in Uzbekistan, Association of Korean residents in Uzbekistan, teachers and students of Tashkent state oriental studies, State pedagogical university named after Nizami, Uzbek State World Languages University and Association of Korean Cultural Centers in Uzbekistan attended the festival.

Overall, 700 people participated in the festival. They participated in the master class, which demonstrated step-by-step preparation of kimchi.

The participants received booklets with the recipe of the kimchi, disposable gloves and packages. The instructors described each ingredient and how to prepare kimchi.

Each person could prepare kimchi with assistance of the volunteers. Over 1,000 kg of cabbages were used during the festival.

The participants had chance to taste kimchi, which they prepared. The organizers also treated the participants with traditional rice tteok.

Director of Uzbekistan KOPIA center Ahn Heesung said that the company implements investment projects in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Uzbek scientific-production center for agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan. He expressed hope that the festival will serve as cultural bridge between Uzbekistan and South Korea and to hold the festival next year as well.

Korea Project on International Agricultural (KOPIA) center and Uzbek scientific-production center for agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan have been successfully cooperating in agriculture since 2009.

KOPIA center sponsors several projects in agriculture sector in Uzbekistan and conducts scientific-research activities with scientific-research institutes of Uzbekistan, exchange specialists, holds trainings for Uzbek agriculture specialists.
