Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – A presentation of Alisher Navoi’s poem “Farkhod and Shirin” in English was held at the National Library of Uzbekistan, Dunyo news agency reports.
The author of the translation of the work of the great classic of Uzbek literature was the poet, writer and translator Azam Abidov, and the publication was carried out by Wondernet Express Tashkent.
As noted at the event, a team of famous creative personalities worked on the publication of a masterpiece of Uzbek literature. Among them are Maya Dzirkvelishvili, Eduard Rtveladze, Ibrohim Hakkul, Niyazali Kholmatov, Shorasul Shoahmedov, Sofia Kintsurashvili, Shakhnoza Karimbabaeva and others.
“The idea of translating this literary work came from close creative collaboration with Shakhnoza Karimbabaeva and Wondernet Express Tashkent,” A. Abidov said at the presentation. - After a long and fruitful communication, we decided that we would like to see “Farhod and Shirin” in its English version.
The translation into English was based on the version of Gafur Gulyam. The translation, including the Russian and Uzbek versions, was published in Turkey.
“Farhad and Shirin is one of Alisher Navoi’s most famous poems,” says A. Abidov. “It is well known in Uzbekistan and abroad. Our goal is not just to translate, but to make every possible effort to popularize Uzbek literature. It is important for us that people read beautiful books, because Uzbek literature is rich in both bright personalities and masterpieces.
“Farhad and Shirin” is the second poem of “Khamsa” (“Five”) by Alisher Navoi, which is distinguished by the breadth of such significant issues as the education of life-affirming love, friendship, the best human qualities, the condemnation of destructive hostility, betrayal, treachery, unjust destructive wars.
