Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- FAO and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) organized a joint meeting on agrifood trade facilitation among SCO member states.

The event incorporated technical presentations from FAO and Uzbekistan's International Strategic Centre for Agri-Food Development (ISCAD). It was attended by experts from relevant ministries of the SCO member states.

“ISCAD was established to carry out a strategic analysis of agricultural products and serves to develop effective policies and programs to support the sector, increase competitiveness in the domestic and international markets”, says the Director of the Centre, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Alisher Shukurov.

The participants discussed the modalities of cross-border trade facilitation, including the creation of green corridors and Cross-Border Wholesale Distribution Centers. It was noted that the SCO countries are the world's largest producers and exporters of agricultural products, and their participation in ensuring the continuous operation of international food production and supply chains contributes to stability in the global food market.

The experts considered the prospects for agrifood trade facilitation between the SCO member states.
