FAO Director-General meets with Uzbek Officials

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev, Minister of Agriculture Ibrahim Abdurakhmanov, and FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu held a meeting in Tashkent.

The meeting focused on issues related to agricultural product trade, food security, and adaptation to climate change among landlocked developing countries, as well as logistical challenges.

Key topics included the development of transport corridors linking Uzbekistan with other countries, increasing awareness of the current state of food security and systems within the country, addressing major regional and global issues hindering progress in food security, and boosting agricultural product export and import volumes.

Uzbek officials emphasized the importance of developing the agricultural sector, deepening reforms, increasing the production of high-quality market-oriented and export-focused products, ensuring the population has access to quality food, creating value chains, integrating science and innovation into the sector, and the significance of cooperation with the FAO in these areas.

Additionally, the meeting addressed current problems in Uzbekistan’s agriculture sector and the measures being taken to resolve them through FAO collaboration.
