Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8-12 April 2019, Tashkent will host the Third Subregional training for trainers of Central Asia on the topic “Strengthening the implementation of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage”.

The organizers of the training are the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, the UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan, the Secretariat of the 2003 Convention at UNESCO Headquarters, with financial support from the International Training Center for Specialists in Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (CRIHAP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Subregional training, which is part of the UNESCO Global Program for Capacity Building in the Field of Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage, will prepare trainers who are familiar with the specifics of each Central Asian country. Also, the goal of the training for trainers is to strengthen the interaction and the empowerment of Central Asian countries in implementing the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The training will review and discuss further capacity building in Central Asia.

The training participants are specialists and experts in the field of intangible cultural heritage from four countries of Central Asia - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Central Asia is located at the crossroads of ancient civilizations, the territory of which is an ensemble of elements and monuments of cultural heritage, symbolizing a common history and reflecting a unique cultural diversity. Among them, elements of intangible cultural heritage — customs, traditions, and related tools, objects, artifacts, and cultural spaces — recognized by communities, groups, and, in some cases, individuals as part of their cultural heritage — occupy a special place.

The UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity includes Traditional Music “Shashmakom” (2008), Aytys / Aytysh, the art of improvisation (2015), Traditional knowledge and skills of making Kyrgyz and Kazakh yurts (Turkic nomadic peoples, 2014) , Askia - the art of wit (2014), Navruz (2016), the traditional equestrian kok-boru game and the traditional Kazakh games in Asyki (2017), Chakan, the art of embroidery (2018) and others.

The training “Strengthening the implementation of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage” will be conducted by international experts.
