Expansion of the Better Cotton Program in Uzbekistan Discussed in Geneva

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Geneva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and Chair of the National Commission on Combating Human Trafficking and Ensuring Decent Work, Tanzila Narbayeva, met with Alan McClay, CEO of the international organization Better Cotton.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the Better Cotton program in Uzbekistan and explored prospects for further expanding cooperation in this area. Special emphasis was placed on the significance of the program not merely as a certification system but as an effective tool for improving environmental, social, and labor standards in the agricultural sector.

It was noted that the participation of Uzbek producers in the Better Cotton initiative offers additional opportunities to access international markets and strengthens Uzbekistan’s image as a responsible and sustainable supplier of cotton and textile products.

The two sides discussed in detail the prospects of expanding the program's coverage in the country. Currently, the initiative is being implemented in six agricultural clusters with a combined output of approximately 30,000 tons of raw cotton.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their partnership and expanding the scale of joint activities under the Better Cotton program.
