Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s executive authorities will be moved to "New Tashkent," as announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during an event dedicated to the creation of a "green belt" around the capital.
The president discussed plans for the construction of "New Tashkent" and the relocation of all executive bodies to this new city, emphasizing that these measures would help reduce congestion in the capital and improve living conditions for residents. "There will be no large vehicles, no traffic jams, and people will only benefit from this," he remarked.
Mirziyoyev also touched upon his speech at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, explaining that the initiative to declare 2025 as the Year of Environmental Protection and a "Green" Economy in Uzbekistan is of great importance.
The president highlighted the need to combine sustainable economic development with environmental issues and the ambition to access global markets to create new opportunities for entrepreneurs.
"To achieve this, it is necessary to update technologies, produce high-quality goods, and become competitive on international markets," he stated.
Mirziyoyev also mentioned the goal to reach a GDP of $200 billion, noting that the current figure is $110 billion. He expressed confidence that further progress in line with strategic goals would yield successful results.
The president stressed that the "New Tashkent" project is essential to prevent overcrowding in the old part of the city and to ensure comfortable living conditions for the capital’s residents.
As a reminder, in April 2024, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree instructing the coordination council, led by the prime minister, to submit proposals for the relocation of ministries and departments to "New Tashkent" within three months.
The construction of the city officially began in March 2023, and it is expected to house one million people. "New Tashkent" will accommodate government agencies, universities, and other important facilities.
At the same time, the old part of Tashkent, where ministries are currently located, is planned to be redeveloped with hotels and commercial establishments.
