Ex-soloist of "Ummon" Zokhid Riskiev sentenced

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Yunusabad District Court has sentenced former vocalist of the Ummon band Zokhid Riskiev in a criminal case.

In September 2022, Zokhid Riskiev, while driving a BMW car and moving at high speed, collided with a concrete fence. As a result of the accident, one passenger died at the scene. Zohid Riskiev and two other passengers were taken to the hospital.

The driver was diagnosed with an open craniocerebral injury, brain damage, a bruised and lacerated head wound, damage to the soft tissues of the left shoulder, and he was also in a coma of the first or second degree. The driver and a second passenger, also seriously injured, were taken to the intensive care unit. A third passenger with less severe injuries was not hospitalized.

On this incident, a criminal case was initiated in accordance with part 2 of article 266 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules or the operation of vehicles, resulting in the death of a person).

On 9 August, the court found Zokhid Riskiev guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison, and also deprived him of the right to drive vehicles for a period of three years. The court applied Article 72 of the Criminal Code (Probation), resulting in the sentence being commuted to a suspended sentence subject to a two-year probationary period.

The court took into account the admission of guilt and repentance of the accused, and also took into account the state of his health, the absence of objections from the victims and their request for a non-hcustodial sentence.
