Europe Day 2023 to be celebrated in Uzbekistan on 4-6 May

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 May, the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan will start the celebration of the Europe Day in Uzbekistan – annual event commemorating the values of peace and unity. In 2023 the Europe Day is celebrated also as a part of European Year of Skills focusing on the vital role of human capital, in both – Europe and Uzbekistan. The 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights will also be at the core of messages and activities.

2023 is the European Year of Skills underlines professional and social inclusion and growth, targeting, in particular, youth, women and minorities; skills that contribute to the green and digital transitions, enable innovation and competitiveness and can also be linked to the education and research pillar of the #GlobalGateway.

“Continuity between generations is a distinctive feature of the Uzbek people. From generation to generation, the people of Uzbekistan carefully preserve and invariably pass on to each other the beautiful tradition of "usta-shogird" (English: from a master to a student), when young people learn craft and professional skills from senior mentors. We are pleased that the European Union also contributes to this chain of experience and knowledge exchange. Through projects and programs funded by the EU, we provide women, youth and rural population with skills that are not only in demand today, but also contribute to their further sustainable growth and development,” points out Charlotte Adriaen, Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan.

In the spirit of the Team Europe, the European Union empowers people from all walks of life to take charge of their career paths and their future. And in this connection the Delegation of European Union to Uzbekistan organizes a series of Europe Day events inviting the people of Uzbekistan to learn more about the values and opportunities of the European Union:

On 5 May, the Europe Day Concert. The EU Delegation invites the lovers of classical opera and ballet heritage to Alisher Navoi State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet to celebrate the Europe Day. The Gala Concert will take place with the participation of a symphony orchestra, leading soloists of the opera, choir and ballet of the theatre. The concert will feature the masterpieces of world opera classics and scenes from famous ballet performances will be presented.On 6 May, Europe Day Festival at the Tashkent Botanical Garden stresses the achievements of bilateral cooperation between the Uzbekistan in various areas, diverse cultures of the EU Member States, as well proposed prospects for future cooperation. 30 projects will be presented in the festival profiling in Climate Change and Resilience in Central Asia, Strengthening Civil Society, Communities and Authorities to Advance Gender Equality and Women’s Rights in Uzbekistan, Improvement of the solid waste management system in the City of Samarkand, Erasmus+ Programmes, Horticulture Development Activities and many more.

The festival will also consist of an entertainment part for the general public, which will include performances by Uzbek pop stars, themed flash mobs, master classes, creative and sport activities as well as edutainment corners and dance zones for visitors. The attendance free for public.
