EU and Uzbekistan strengthen partnership in economy and environment

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 18 March, a high-level meeting took place between a delegation led by European Commissioner for International Cooperation Josef Sikela and Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkarov.

The talks were also attended by Kyriakos Kakouris, Vice President of the European Investment Bank, Pedro Espírito Santo and Wojciech Srnka from the Directorate-General for International Cooperation of the European Commission, EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan Toivo Klaar, and other officials.

The discussions focused on key areas of bilateral cooperation and prospects for further strengthening socio-economic ties.

Special attention was given to expanding trade and economic relations, cooperation with international organizations, including Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), and measures to ensure economic stability.

The parties also discussed logistics infrastructure projects, modernization of state-owned enterprises, digitalization of the economy, and the adoption of advanced space technologies.

A significant part of the negotiations was dedicated to sustainable "green" growth initiatives. Participants reviewed Uzbekistan’s ongoing green economy reforms, energy efficiency projects, and the expansion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Additionally, the sides explored public-private partnership opportunities in strategic sectors such as healthcare, education, and energy, including the development of power supply infrastructure in Uzbekistan’s regions.

At the conclusion of the talks, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and agreed to continue collaboration on the outlined initiatives.
