ESCAP: Investments in Uzbekistan decreased by 49%

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The volume of investments attracted to Uzbekistan in 2024 amounted to US$4 billion, representing a 49% decrease compared to the previous year, according to a report by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

Kazakhstan emerged as the leader among the countries of North and Central Asia in attracting investments. In 2024, the country secured US$15.7 billion, an 88% increase compared to the previous year, accounting for 63% of the total investments in the region.

Kyrgyzstan demonstrated remarkable growth, attracting US$2.1 billion, a 310% increase from 2023. Azerbaijan secured US$1.2 billion (+1%), Turkmenistan US$339 million, Georgia US$126 million, and Armenia US$67 million.

The report highlights the growing interest of international companies in projects implemented across the region, particularly in areas such as digital technologies, innovation, and green energy development.

It also emphasizes that the successful development of new investment avenues requires not only the establishment of favorable policies but also comprehensive support for investors at all stages of project development, including the post-investment phase.

Update: The Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade (MIIT) of Uzbekistan issued an official statement refuting the findings of a report by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
