Each year United Nations Country Office in Uzbekistan conducts procurements for over US$10 million as part of its activities to support socio-economic development and reforms in Uzbekistan. Analysis of procurement spending in the last three years demonstrated that domestic suppliers account for around half of the total purchases annually.

The Presentation was called to raise awareness of local business community about opportunities of supplying goods and services for the needs of UN in Uzbekistan and UNDP in particular.

“The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan supports business and facilitates development of private sector in the country. The intention of this meeting is to promote better involvement of entrepreneurs into international bids, as well as to present UN as an important purchaser and promising business partner. The Presentation demonstrated available opportunities and explained rules and peculiarities of doing business with UN”, said Dilshod Rasulov, Head of International Economic Relations Department of the Chamber.

About 60 local and foreign companies representing various sectors such as manufacturing of building materials, furniture, pharmaceuticals as well as construction companies and IT service providers participated at the event to discover UN procurement rules, policies and procedures. Participants were provided with practical tips on participation at biddings and preparation of quality proposals.

Detailed UNDP Procurement Plan for 2012 will also be discussed and outlooks for 2013 – 2014 will be presented as well. All procurement opportunities are announced at www.undp.uz/gpn. Presentations were followed by Questions and Answers session and vivid discussions. Those in present were common in their opinion that the event was a unique opportunity for local companies to explore possibilities of working beyond Uzbek market. As well, the entrepreneurs suggested introducing the system of sms-notifications on current and planned UNDP procurement announces among interested companies of Uzbekistan.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of government, international organizations and mass-media.
