Energy efficiency monitoring in Uzbekistan is entering a qualitatively new level

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 30 September 2024, as part of joint efforts between UNDP and its partners, new resources were provided to support the Digital Resource Center at the Research Institute of Technical Regulation and Standardization under the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Uzbekistan. The Center is a key facility, combining modern technology and expertise to help track energy use and find ways to save energy, which benefits both the budget and the environment.

The Digital Resource Center collects data on energy consumption, identifies areas of waste, and helps plan for energy-saving improvements. This work supports environmental protection and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals. UNDP’s support aims to help the Center increase its efficiency and includes providing IT equipment, office furniture, and advanced tools for conducting energy audits. The Center will also receive a web-platform that will be integrated into the official website and will be used to raise awareness about energy-efficient housing.

The new support will help the Center’s team automate data processing, track energy use more efficiently, and come up with ways to improve energy efficiency in buildings. These new resources will also help the Center to offer training on energy-efficient and low-carbon housing design, construction, and maintenance, supporting Uzbekistan’s efforts to become more energy-efficient.

“We are pleased to support the Digital Resource Center, laying a strong foundation for its future success. The center plays a vital role in building the skills and capacity of the ministry’s staff while also showcasing energy-efficient technologies and promoting the benefits of renewable energy to the broader public,” said Akiko Fujii, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan.

The support has been provided within the framework of the UNDP project “Market transformation for sustainable rural housing in Uzbekistan” funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The project objective is to provide Uzbekistan’s rural population with improved, affordable and environmentally friendly living conditions.
