Electricity to be generated from municipal solid waste incineration
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has adopted presidential decrees aimed at implementing investment projects for electricity generation through the incineration of municipal solid waste.
These initiatives will cover Tashkent and the regions of Andijan, Namangan, Ferghana, Tashkent, Kashkadarya, and Samarkand.
According to the approved documents, the regions will establish energy production facilities using advanced waste processing technologies, contributing to environmental improvement and attracting direct investment in the sector.
Under signed agreements for electricity sales and waste supply, project companies will be granted the right to sell generated energy to the state-owned joint-stock company Uzenergosotish on a guaranteed basis for 30 years.
From 2025 to 2027, investors and project companies will launch equipment with specific production capacities.
In Tashkent region, the thermal processing of 2,500 tons of waste per day is expected to generate 390 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. In Andijan, Kashkadarya, and Samarkand regions, production will reach 240 million kilowatt-hours per year by processing 1,500 tons of waste daily.
Meanwhile, Namangan and Ferghana regions plan to generate 227.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually through the incineration of 1,500 tons of municipal solid waste per day.
