Elections of the President of Uzbekistan in the focus of attention of foreign experts

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The participation of international organizations and foreign observers in the process of preparing and holding open and transparent democratic elections is of great importance. Election observation is recognized in most countries as an important aspect of ensuring political human rights.

So, these days, meetings were held at the International Institute of Central Asia with experts who arrived in Uzbekistan as international observers for the presidential elections. In the course of conversations with experts, the past presidential elections and further opportunities for expanding cooperation between ICA and leading "think tanks" of foreign countries were discussed.

International observers noted the high level of preparation for the political event, praising the ongoing reforms in the domestic and foreign policy of Uzbekistan. It was noted that the recent constitutional reform and presidential elections have become the starting point for reforming the political and public life in Uzbekistan.

Director of the Institute of Eurasian Studies at the Center for Training on International Rights and Cooperation for the SCO S. Lin noted the high organizational level in the presidential elections in Uzbekistan, as well as the political activity of voters.

In addition, the expert gave a positive assessment to the processes in Central Asia and the consistent strengthening of interconnectedness in the region.

It was noted that the common consolidated position of all five Central Asian countries is extremely relevant, given the current international situation.

Executive Director of the Shanghai Academy of Global Governance and Regional Studies at the Shanghai University of International Studies, Professor Yang Cheng said: “Watching the coverage of events in foreign media about your country in recent years, I am once again convinced that grandiose changes are taking place in Uzbekistan that have a positive effect on life and the mood of its citizens.

According to the chairman of the Institute for Strategic and International Studies of Malaysia, M. Abdullah, the norms enshrined in the Basic Law of the country regarding education, science, healthcare and housing for the population indicate a high priority for the social well-being of the people of the country.

In addition, S. Pandey, professor at the Indian Center for Russian and Central Asian Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, said that significant positive changes have taken place in the country. In recent years, the country’s leadership has taken very balanced and constructive steps in building a democratic society. The expert also noted that interethnic and interfaith harmony reigns in the country.

President of the Russian State University for the Humanities E. Pivovar stressed that the results of the socio-political reforms carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will contribute to strengthening stability and prosperity in Uzbekistan, and will continue to “set the tone for regional integration processes.”

The chairmen of the commission on foreign affairs of the parliaments of Latvia and Estonia, R. Kols and M. Mihkelson, agree that over the next seven years Uzbekistan will reach a new level of economic and social development and become even more important in the international arena.

Director of the Institute for Foreign Policy Hussein Bagdzhi noted that the past presidential elections in the Republic of Uzbekistan can be called open and transparent, corresponding to universally recognized international democratic principles.

He also stressed that Uzbekistan has developed its own approach and methodology for organizing and conducting elections, created an integral system for the implementation of the rights of voters, as well as for the participation of local and international observers in the electoral process. This contributes to the successful conduct of the elections, which were organized at a high level.

The Turkish expert noted: the reforms carried out by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev have a huge impact on the development of Uzbekistan. According to him, such a policy reflects the desire of the nation for self-realization and a brighter future.

Representatives of the National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sh. Baktygulov, D. Berdakov and Kyrgyz independent expert N. Muratalieva also gave their assessment of the past Presidential elections.

In particular, Sh. Baktygulov appreciated the legal training of the members of the election commission. He noted the developed national electoral legislation.

For his part, D. Berdakov stressed that the economic reforms implemented by the leadership of Uzbekistan have a positive effect on the attractiveness of the country for business and enable investors to invest in important areas of the economy.

N. Muratalieva emphasized that Uzbekistan plays an important role in Central Asia as a country that connects different peoples, cultures and ideas of the region.

International election observation is a manifestation of the international community’s interest in ensuring democratic elections as a component of democracy development. It is intended to ensure that electoral processes are assessed in accordance with international principles for the conduct of genuinely democratic elections and national legislation.
