Eldor Shomurodov Officially Joins Istanbul Başakşehir
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Captain of Uzbekistan’s national football team, Eldor Shomurodov, has officially completed a transfer from Italian side AS Roma to Turkish club Istanbul Başakşehir. The move was confirmed by the press services of both clubs.
According to renowned football insider Fabrizio Romano, the transfer has been arranged as a loan with a mandatory purchase clause: the Istanbul-based club will pay €3 million for the initial loan, followed by an additional €2.7 million upon its completion. The agreement also includes a clause entitling Roma to 10% of any future transfer fee from Shomurodov's next move.
The 30-year-old Uzbek striker is set to sign a two-year contract with his new club, with an option to extend for an additional season.
Shomurodov joined Roma in 2021 and made 85 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals. One of the highlights of his time in Rome was his debut goal in the UEFA Conference League playoff against Trabzonspor — a match-winner that set Roma on the path to eventual victory in the competition.
In January 2023, he was loaned to Spezia, and during the 2023/2024 season, he played for Cagliari under veteran coach Claudio Ranieri.
Bidding farewell to the Italian capital, Shomurodov shared an emotional message on social media:
“The time has come to say goodbye to Roma. This club gave me unforgettable memories, goals, battles, and special moments. It was an honor to wear this shirt. I’m grateful for every minute, every goal, and every lesson. Roma will forever stay in my heart.”
Roma, in turn, thanked the forward for his contributions and wished him success in the next chapter of his career.
Istanbul Başakşehir finished fifth in the Turkish Super League last season, securing a spot in European competitions.
