Enner Valencia scored the brace. At 15 minutes he opened the score from the penalty spot. Valencia scored the second goal in the 31st minute after a free kick.

The teams made only 11 shots during the match - this is a repetition of the anti-record in the World Cup match.

Qatar became the first World Cup host country to lose in the tournament’s opening match.

The second match of group A will take place on 21 November between Senegal and the Netherlands. Group B matches will also take place on Monday: England v Iran and USA v Wales.
