Economy of Uzbekistan grows by 8.3% in Jan-Sep 2010
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan grew by 8.3% year-on-year in January-September 2010, the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan said on 22 October.

The government said that industrial output of Uzbekistan rose by 8.3% year-on-year, agriculture output – 7.8%, services – 11.2% and construction works – 9%.

State Budget of Uzbekistan was executed with 0.2% surplus to GDP. The inflation rate did not exceed forecasted figure.

Effective measures on supporting local exporters, diversification of export structures and opening of new markets ensured export growth at the level of 10.9%.

Capital investments increased by 8.1% in the reporting period and foreign direct investments and loans, in particular, rose by 15.1%. Some 867 production capacities were commissioned and 156 investment projects were implemented in nine months of 2010. The projects included modernization and re-equipment of light, textile, food, oil and chemical, electronics, pharmaceutical and other industries.

The growth of production of consumer goods rose by 12% in the reporting period due to tax preferences and expansion of loan support to enterprises. The volume of production of localized goods rose by 1.4 times and effect from important-replacement grew by 1.3 times.

Within the reporting period, the construction and reconstruction of 191 km of roads of Uzbekistan national highway were completed. About 41 objects of roadside infrastructure and service were commissioned.

Some 3,597 houses on standard projects and 85 objects of social infrastructure were commissioned within the programme on rural house construction to due resources of Qishloq Qurilish Bank in rural areas. Overall, some 1,965.8 km of water supply networks, including 1,298.1 km in rural areas, were launched in the reporting period.

The government said that some 784,900 new jobs were created in Uzbekistan, of which 502,400 fell to share to rural areas.

The government also developed programme on creation of new jobs and ensuring employment of population for 2011. The programme plans to create 956,200 new jobs, of which 477,800 jobs will be created due to development of small businesses and service sector, 216,200 jobs – outwork, and 72,800 jobs – development of production and social infrastructure.
