Economy of Karakalpakstan grows by 12.7 in 2012
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The volume of gross regional product (GRP) of Karakalpakstan grew by 12.7%, the Council of Karakalpakstan said in its session.

Industrial output of Karakalpakstan rose by 8.7% in 2012, production of consumer goods – by 10.6%, construction works – by 19.5%, agriculture output – 13.2%, trade and paid services by 12.7%, UzA reported.

Construction of Usturt Gas Chemical Complex has been launched at Surgil field in 2012. After launch, it will produce 400,000 polyethylene and 100,000 tonnes of polypropylene, as well as 100,000 tonnes of pyrolized petroleum a year. It will create 5,000 new jobs.

Last year, Karakalpakstan paid attention to development of production, modernization and re-equipment of enterprises. Light industry implemented six projects on modernization of capacities for US$65.5 million.

Karakalpakstan utilized investments for 1.145 trillion soums in 2012. Exports of Karakalpakstan made up US$11.8 million last year. It also created 48,722 new job places in 2012.

Karakalpakstan directed 237 billion soums and US$1.743 million to implementation of the programme of the Year of Family.
