Eco-industrial zones to be created on waste landfills in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree "On Measures for Further Improvement and Comprehensive Systematization of the Waste Processing Sector."
The document outlines key directions for the development of the industry, including the reduction of solid waste landfills by 50% by 2030 and the implementation of circular economy principles.
Starting in 2026, the creation of new landfills will be regulated by the Cabinet of Ministers based on proposals from the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change. Additionally, eco-industrial zones specializing in waste processing will be established on landfill sites for a period of 30 years.
As part of investment projects for the thermal disposal of solid waste, 19.87 hectares of agricultural land in the Namangan and Tashkent regions will be reclassified as industrial land.
