Eco-campaign to free trees surrounded by concrete pavement launched in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 April 2023, on the initiative of the Minister of Natural Resources Aziz Abdukhakimov, the Save the Trees eco-campaign was launched in Tashkent. As part of the campaign, all concreted and asphalted trees will be released in all districts of Tashkent, as well as the installation of advertising banners and luminous plastic objects on trees will be removed.

The event was attended by the Minister of Natural Resources Aziz Abdukhakimov, Deputy Khokim of Tashkent Bakhtiyor Rakhmonov, and 4 sectors of the integrated socio-economic development of districts and territories with the participation of heads of regional structures of districts, prosecutors, internal affairs and the state tax service, as well as representatives media and eco-activists.

In his speech, Minister of Resources Aziz Abdukhakimov emphasized that the main goal of this initiative is to open the base of concreted or paved trees and ensure their survival.

“Today, on many streets and quarters of our city, you can see the roots of trees surrounded by concrete or artificial surfaces. This reduces the access of air to the roots of trees, causing the risk of damage and death. At the same time, there are also cases of damage to trees by installing night lighting devices, which negatively affects the process of their natural development, Aziz Abdukhakimov noted. Eco-campaign "Save the Trees" is aimed at freeing existing trees from concrete and asphalt pavement, plastic lighting (garlands, light bulbs) and advertising banners. The Ministry of Natural Resources is collecting applications from residents, and problems that interfere with the natural process of tree growth will be eliminated together with the improvement departments and activists of the microdistrict.”

Inspectors of the Tashkent city department of the Ministry of Natural Resources found that the base of 250 species of ornamental and fruit trees was concreted during monitoring work on 11 large roadsides. As part of the eco-action, all cases will be eliminated. This action will continue in all regions of Uzbekistan.

In order to further strengthen the protection and protection of trees, the Ministry of Natural Resources has launched a Telegram bot, through which the public will be able to send applications electronically about damage to trees.
