Earthquake in Afghanistan felt in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At 04:14 local time today, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck Afghanistan’s Takhar Province.
According to the Republican Center for Seismological Service, the epicenter was located at a depth of 100 kilometers, with coordinates 36.21° N and 70.34° E. The intensity at the epicenter reached 4 points on the seismic scale.
Despite the considerable distance (approximately 570 km from Tashkent), seismic waves were felt in several regions of Uzbekistan. The strongest tremors were recorded in Surkhandarya Region (4 points), which is situated 295 km from the epicenter. In other regions — Fergana, Samarkand, Jizzakh, Syrdarya, Kashkadarya, Andijan, and Namangan — the intensity measured 3 points. In the capital, Tashkent, the earthquake was felt as a 2-point tremor.
As of now, there have been no reports of damage or casualties in Uzbekistan.
