E-visa system introduces electronic consular services
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The United Nations Development Programme and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan “Enhancing the Capacity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to better respond to the Emerging issues of the new Millennium” project assisted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan to implement its national e-visa system.

E-visa - electronic visa application system - enables foreign citizens to apply and extend visas as well as temporary and permanent residence permits online. This innovative system provides better access to consular services, reduces paper-based processes, and increases awareness about strengthening communication with public, UNDP Uzbekistan said.

The system was installed on a high-end platform and operates securely, maintaining all information security requirements. This application is available in the English, French, Spanish, Russian and Uzbek languages at www.evisa.mfa.uz and its user-friendly interface makes it easy to navigate. Thanks to the new e-visa system, which is functioning at 30 embassies and consulates of Uzbekistan in 25 countries around the world, now more than 80% of all visa related activities are being processed through the system.

“This system is the result of successful advisory and technical support of the UNDP Office in Uzbekistan within the framework of the joint project of the UNDP and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan “Enhancing the Capacity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Better Respond to the Emerging Issues of the New Millennium” said A. Dusimov, representative of MFA.

Uzbekistan is an active supporter of the United Nations Information Society initiatives and is keen on developing its national electronic governance systems. In the design and implementation of this initiative, UNDP provided assistance in consulting respective partners and provided capacity building, human resource and institutional development assistance throughout the initiative.

Main objective of the joint project is to assist the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enhance institutional and personnel capacity, as well as material and technical base of the foreign policy office of Uzbekistan.
