Dutch company to build a new thermal power plant in Surkhandarya

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Dutch company Stone City Energy will build a new thermal power plant (TPP) in the Surkhandarya region. The cost of the project is US$1.2 billion, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan said in a statement.

On 19 April, an agreement was signed with Stone City Energy (Netherlands) on the purchase of electricity from the future new TPP.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the TPP’s capacity will be 1,560 MW. The TPP is expected to start operating at the end of 2024.

Due to the use of modern technologies, the new TPP with an annual consumption of 2.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas, will save 1.1 billion cubic meters. The efficiency will be 63%.

The project will introduce the latest technologies, including modern steam-gas units of the HL class (manufactured by Siemens Energy).

Since December 2020, a study has been carried out, as a result of which 150 hectares of land have been allocated for the construction of a new thermal power plant in the Angora district of the Surkhandarya region.

According to the documents, the investor will design, finance, build, commission, operate and manage this thermal power plant for 25 years.
