Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Driving licenses obtained in Uzbekistan will be valid in the United Arab Emirates. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

A delegation led by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant General Pulat Bobojonov, visited the UAE.

Pulat Bobojonov held talks with the Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE - Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

The parties discussed current issues of mutual practical cooperation. Issues of joint fight against transnational organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking and cybercrime are considered. The parties also discussed issues of employee training and exchange of experience. The parties outlined plans for the future.

As a result of the negotiations, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding “On the mutual recognition and exchange of driver’s licenses between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the United Arab Emirates.”

After the memorandum comes into force, citizens of Uzbekistan and the UAE will have the right to drive vehicles with a national driver’s license while visiting the territory of another country (with the exception of those coming for long-term residence).

It also stipulates the exemption of citizens of Uzbekistan who are residents of the UAE and have the right to long-term residence from passing the relevant theoretical and practical tests when obtaining a driving license in this country.

The document is expected to come into force on 27 January 2024.
