Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Karakul district of Bukhara region, a driver of a Chevrolet Lacetti hit two schoolgirls, according to the regional police department.
The accident occurred on 2 October at approximately 5:54 AM on highway 4R-76 in the "Eski-qala" neighborhood, in front of the 15th specialized school.
Footage circulating on social media shows three girls crossing the road at a red light. One managed to avoid the oncoming vehicle, but the other two were struck by the car, which was reportedly moving at high speed. The impact threw the girls a significant distance.
Tragically, one of the schoolgirls passed away in the hospital due to her injuries, while the other remains under medical observation.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 266, Part 2, of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code, which addresses violations of road safety rules resulting in death. The driver has been detained, and an investigation is underway.
