Draft law on seller liability for delayed product delivery approved in first reading

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, lawmakers reviewed and approved the draft law “On Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On Consumer Rights Protection’” in its first reading.

The draft law stipulates that sellers are required to pay a penalty for failing to deliver goods within the timeframe specified in the contract. The penalty amount may not exceed 100% of the value of the undelivered goods. However, payment of the penalty does not exempt the seller from compensating for damages caused by the delay or non-delivery.

If the seller can prove that the delay occurred due to the consumer’s fault, they are exempt from paying the penalty.

This legislative initiative aims to protect consumer rights and prevent situations where sellers breach contract terms, particularly concerning improper or untimely delivery of goods.

The draft law was approved by lawmakers in the first reading.
