Sports 11/05/2010 Domestic disappointment driving Karamah
Victor Kumikov
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Al Karamah coach Mohammed Kwid is eager to erase the disappointment of missing out on their domestic league title by guiding the Syrians into the quarterfinals of the AFC Cup with a win over Nasaf at Khaled Ibn Al Waleed stadium on Tuesday.

The hosts secured their place in the last 16 by topping Group A while Uzbeks Nasaf finished runners-up in Group C.

Al Karamah finished two points behind Syrian Premier League winners Al Jaish having drawn their final game 3-3 with Jabala and Kwid is looking for his side to bounce back with a win over Nasaf.

"Our team’s morale is not at its best as we lost the league title recently," he said.

"However, we want to make up for this by qualifying for the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup.

"We must avoid mistakes in this game because it’s a one-off encounter and this means that it’s like a final for us. We will try to seal the game and take advantage of playing at home.

"We have followed Nasaf closely since they played against Al Jaish two weeks ago in Damascus. They are a strong team and they have good players with good physical abilities.”

Kwid will have to make at least one change to his side, however, with Mohanad Al Ibrahim suspended for the match.

"The absence of Mohanad will affect us because he has been giving good performances recently," added Kwid.

"However, I’m sure we’ll find a good replacement for him."

Nasaf go into the game without the services of Jahongir Jiyamuradov, Artyom Filiposyan and Siarhei Krot, who are all suspended after picking two yellow cards in the group stage.

Coach Victor Kumikov admitted their absence is a blow but believes if his side can overcome last year’s AFC Cup runners-up then they have every chance of going all the way to the final.

"We will miss three key players and this will cause a big problem for us," he said.

"I hope we can find good coherence and the suitable replacements for these players.

"We know how to play and we have a good plan although we’ll not play defensively and our plan will change according to the game.

"I’m optimistic that we if defeat Al Karamah we will carry on and advance to the final of the competition.

“Our performances are getting better and better with every game and the players are getting good experience."
