Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Doctors at the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Assistance successfully removed 135 magnetic balls from the stomach of a two-year-old girl, Samira, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.
The young resident of Ferghana had been playing with the magnetic balls, gradually swallowing them. As a result, they accumulated in her stomach, forming two clumps that posed a serious threat to her life.
After being admitted to the Ferghana regional branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Assistance, specialists initially attempted conservative treatment. Inducing vomiting allowed them to remove only 14 of the balls.
Due to her deteriorating condition, Samira was transferred to Tashkent, where a four-and-a-half-hour surgery was performed.
Currently, the girl’s condition has stabilized, and she remains under medical supervision. The operation was conducted by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Habibulla Okilov, along with specialists from the center, Nozim Urmonov and Dilmurod Sabirov.
