Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, met with the head of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), UN Deputy Secretary-General Li Junhua.
During the meeting, Li Junhua highly praised Uzbekistan's current efforts in developing e-government, emphasizing the systemic reforms aimed at improving the country's position in the UN e-government development ranking, and its inclusion in the list of the Top 30 countries by 2030.
It was particularly noted that this year, Uzbekistan improved its position by 6 places in the e-government ranking, entering the group with a very high index (Very High EGDI), and also improved its position by 18 points in the previous ranking, boosting its overall ranking by 24 positions.
The meeting also addressed preparations for the United Nations Public Service Forum, which will take place in Samarkand, including the theme of the forum, key speakers, and organizational aspects for the high-level event.
Furthermore, the discussions covered issues related to improving IT infrastructure, enhancing Uzbekistan’s position in the e-government ranking, expanding long-term cooperation, and increasing the role of youth in the field of information technologies.
Special attention was given to the importance of achieving sustainable development through digital transformation.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on further deepened cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, implementing best practices, and taking active joint actions to achieve sustainable, inclusive, and digital development.
