"Development Strategy for New Uzbekistan" presented at the SCO Secretariat

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The presentation of the brochure "Strategies for the Development of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026", prepared in Chinese by the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the PRC, was held at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing.

The event was held by the diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan in China together with the SCO Secretariat and the Development Strategy Center as part of the republic’s chairmanship in the Organization.

The presentation was attended by SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming, representatives of diplomatic missions of member states, observer countries and partners of the Organization, as well as experts from leading Chinese think tanks.

The participants were acquainted with the main provisions of the "Strategy for the Development of New Uzbekistan" until 2026, in particular, its priority areas, goals and objectives.

During the exchange of views, special attention was paid to the practical results achieved and the prospects for large-scale reforms carried out under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Chinese experts emphasized that "this publication was the first work published in Chinese on strategic development reforms in the CIS countries and Central Asia."

During the presentation, Zhang Ming noted that the "Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan" reflects the aspirations of the Uzbek people and their firm commitment to further development." "The strategy has both a broad social and economic base" and "a balanced, innovative character."

The Secretary General emphasized that “President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is, in fact, carrying out historical reforms. An open and active foreign policy of Uzbekistan contributes to the growth of the country’s authority on the world stage and the intensification of the country’s international cooperation, including within the framework of the SCO.

As Zhang Ming stated, the Republic of Uzbekistan makes “an important contribution to ensuring development, peace and stability in the region of the Shanghai Organization. Uzbekistan puts forward many relevant initiatives that serve to enrich the agenda, enhance the image and role of the Organization in the system of international relations.”

He highly appreciated the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the SCO. He stressed that the active efforts of Tashkent, which are strongly supported by the member states of the Organization, create the necessary conditions for the successful holding of the Samarkand SCO summit.

“I look forward to visiting Uzbekistan and witnessing new transformations in the country with my own eyes,” the Secretary General emphasized.

Chinese experts noted that the reform program of President Sh. M. Mirziyoyev combines an integrated approach to the issues of modernizing the country, on the one hand, and taking into account the historical, spiritual and cultural values of the Uzbek people, on the other. In addition, the accelerated transformation of the economy is carried out with a well-thought-out social policy.

Li Yongquan, director of the Institute for Social Development of Europe and Asia under the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, noted that the reforms launched in 2017 in Uzbekistan are now yielding concrete results. The reformist course of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has received wide recognition from the international community.

The “Development Strategy for New Uzbekistan” has become a logical continuation of the “Action Strategy” (2017-2021). According to him, “the new development program has even higher goals, which are determined on the basis of the achieved results of the transformations and the creative potential of the country.

As Ding Xiaoxing, director of the Eurasia Institute of the Chinese Academy of Contemporary International Relations, emphasized, “the previous five-year stage in the development of Uzbekistan was a period of unprecedented transformation and innovative reforms.” According to him, "there is not a single area where Uzbekistan has not moved forward."

The Chinese expert believes that “the new Development Strategy is a continuation of these transformations. Thanks to them, "we have witnessed the entry of Uzbekistan into a qualitatively new era of its national development."

Su Chan, Deputy Director of the Council for Strategic Cooperation between China and Russia at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, noted that “Over the past five years, economic reforms in Uzbekistan have achieved significant results. Thanks to this, "the Republic of Uzbekistan has become the most stable state and driver of economic growth in the entire region of Central Asia."

Uzbekistan has embarked on the next stage of transformation - the "Strategy for the Development of New Uzbekistan". This, in fact, is "a well-grounded and large-scale vision of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the future development of his country."

In general, the presentation of the "Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan" showed the desire of representatives of Chinese political and expert circles to a deeper understanding of modern reforms in our country. According to them, transformations in Uzbekistan play a "stabilizing role" in Central Asia, especially against the backdrop of growing tensions and unpredictability in neighboring regions and the world as a whole.
