Development of renewable energy discussed in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Forum on renewable sources of energy was held in Tashkent on 13 December. The event was organized by the Embassy of Republic of Korea, Korean Institute of Energy, Technology, Assessment and Planning, and Uzbekenergo state joint stock company.

During the forum, the participants discussed issues on policy and perspective of renewable sources of energy of Uzbekistan, perspectives of renewable energy in Uzbekistan, development of solar and wind energy.

It was noted that Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan developed a draft law “On renewable sources of energy” based on foreign experience. The draft law is undergoing expertise at the authorized bodies of Uzbekistan.

In the stage, Uzbekistan implements programme of priorities of development of industry in line with the presidential resolution from 15 December 2010 “On priorities on development of industry of Uzbekistan in 2011-2015”. Uzbekenergo implements 44 investment projects for US$5.273 billion.

The programme includes projects on developing renewable energy. In particular, it is planned to modernize existing 12 hydro power stations with the capacities of 55.8 megawatt and construction of pilot wind energy facility with the capacity of 750 kilowatt at Charvaq water reservoir to gain experience on creation and exploitation of wind energy facilities.

At the same time, Uzbekenergo installs solar collectors at rural medical points in Khorezm region, which allows to produce electricity and heating (hot water) energy in line with the order of the Cabinet of Ministers. At the same time, the similar collectors will be installed in Ferghana, Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions.

Besides, it is adopted decision to create scientific-educational laboratory at Energy Faculty of Tashkent State Technical University (Center of Energy Saving and Renewable Energy) to train specialists in this direction and strengthen material base of universities.

Within the project, two modules of solar power stations and two wind facilities were installed at Energy Faculty.
