Deputy Prime Minister explains the discrepancy between statistics of Uzbekistan and China on gas

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov explained the discrepancy between statistics on natural gas exports published by the statistical authorities of Uzbekistan and China.

According to the State Statistics Committee, in November Uzbekistan exported natural gas to China for US$39.6 million. At the same time, according to Chinese statistics, the figure was US$114.2 million.

Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov said that the discrepancy is due to differences in the conduct of statistics and accounting by the two countries.

According to him, statistics in Uzbekistan take into account only the volume of exported gas and its amount.

He added that the Chinese side generally takes into account goods, products and services imported from Uzbekistan.

The Chinese side in its statistics also takes into account the cost of the gas transit service transported through the territory of Uzbekistan.

He recalled that a gas pipeline running from Turkmenistan to China passes through the territory of Uzbekistan. Gas transit through this pipeline is carried out by the joint venture AsiaTransGas.

When summing up the volume of supplied gas and the cost of transportation, the figures, which are provided by China’s statistics, are obtained, the official said.
