Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Gayrat Fozilov held a meeting with Jean-Luc Lemahieu, Director of the Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs at United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The parties discussed topical issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UNODC.  

They paid a special attention to the cooperation on the issue of Afghanistan. It was noted that the Department highly appreciates Uzbekistan's efforts to resolve the situation in Afghanistan, as well as its assistance in the socio-economic recovery of neighboring country. 

The parties welcomed the establishment of the Information Center on Transnational Threats on the basis of the UNODC Regional Office in Central Asia, which was opened on May 4, 2023. 

Jean-Luc Lemahieu expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan for the support provided in the establishment of the Center, the main purpose of which is to monitor the situation with drugs and organized crime in the region through the use of modern methodologies for collecting and analyzing data on key indicators in this area.

The sides also considered proposals for the implementation of joint projects in areas of mutual interest, including within the framework of the Roadmap for the further development of multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UNODC for 2022-2025.
