Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, a bill aimed at improving the prevention of iodine deficiency diseases among the population was reviewed and approved in the first reading.
As part of the bill, the Ministry of Health is granted several responsibilities. Specifically, it sets requirements for the composition of iodine-containing substances used for iodizing salt and food products, as well as sanitary and hygienic standards regarding their production, storage, transportation, and sale. Additionally, the Ministry of Health is tasked with controlling the quality of the production, storage, import, and sale of iodized salt and iodized products.
Deputies noted that the adoption of this bill will allow for comprehensive preventive measures to be taken to prevent endemic goiter among the population. Moreover, it will ensure citizens have access to high-quality and safe salt, which is necessary for daily consumption.
The bill was adopted in the first reading.
