Delegation of VEON Telecommunication Holding pays visit toUzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A delegation of the VEON telecommunication holding (Beeline TM in Uzbekistan), which included the new management of the company- chief executive officer Kaan Terzioglu and adviser on issues of interaction with government bodies, ex-president of Serbia Boris Tadich paid a working visit to Uzbekistan.

Commenting on his visit, Chief Executive Officer Kaan Terzioglu said: “It is very pleasant to be in Tashkent again. After 15 years, I visited Tashkent twice in the last two weeks. Veon operates in Uzbekistan under the Beeline brand, and since 2006, the company has invested more than US$1 billion in Uzbekistan. For us, Uzbekistan is the heart of Central Asia. The Republic was one of the first to support the development of the “One Belt - One Road” project. What was 15 years ago, and what I see now is impressive. Such progress and so many changes.

In every area - from telecommunications and all types of international trade to the investment climate in the country. The dialogue that we managed to hold with the government inspires us incredibly and Uzbekistan is a key market for our business. We operate in 10 countries around the world and serve 210 million customers. And we are proud to work in Uzbekistan. We would like to continue investing in the republic in the future.

I held various meetings with senior officials. They were held in the khokimiyat of the city of Tashkent, the Senate, the ministries for the development of information technology and communications, investment and foreign trade, and the economy. I am extremely pleased that over the next three years the population of Tashkent, as the capital, could potentially double. We stand ready to work together to ensure the implementation of digital infrastructure to facilitate this major transformation. He is also incredibly happy to see a favorable investment climate created by the government, which gives us, foreign investors, confidence in the implementation of our plans in the future. So this year alone, we plan to invest about US$50 million in the infrastructure of the company, and I hope that this will be a good contribution to the development of the industry, since digitalization for Uzbekistan is becoming more and more realistic in terms of its implementation. And we are pleased to be part of this transformation.”
