Deepening South-South Cooperation to Build Together a Community of Shared Destiny for Developing Countries

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 September, a high-level video conference on poverty reduction and South-South cooperation was held, which was organized by the Government of the People’s Republic of China in cooperation with the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the UN Development Program. The conference was chaired by Wang Yi, Member of the State Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC.

High-ranking officials from many countries and international organizations, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkarov, attended and spoke at the videoconference. This was reported by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Uzbekistan.

Currently, the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread and the global economy is in deep recession. Implementation of the 2030 Agenda faces major challenges, and large numbers of people may find themselves in extreme poverty again.

In this context, videoconferencing has become especially important. Participants had an in-depth exchange of views on strengthening solidarity for deeper South-South cooperation, as well as jointly tackling the coronavirus pandemic, addressing the socio-economic problems of developing countries and implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and reached a broad consensus ...

China and Uzbekistan are among the developing countries and are firmly pursuing the goal of eradicating poverty and accelerating development for the sake of national prosperity and the well-being of peoples. As Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan J. Kuchkarov said at the conference, the long-term strategic goal of Uzbekistan is to ensure sustainable and comprehensive economic growth, increase per capita income and reduce poverty and inequality.

He stressed that the Uzbek side attaches great importance to borrowing China’s successful experience in reducing poverty, and put forward specific proposals for cooperation. China stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Uzbekistan on poverty reduction and South-South cooperation, as well as jointly support the key position of the 2030 Agenda in order to achieve its most important goal of eradicating extreme poverty and injecting new impetus to South-South cooperation for the collective rise of developing countries and the joint building of a community of shared destiny.
