Death toll from earthquake in Chinese Gansu province rises to 113

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 that occurred in Jishishan-Baoan-Dongxiang-Salar Autonomous County, Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province (Northwest China) on the night of Monday to Tuesday has already claimed lives 113 people. Over 536 others were injured, local authorities said on Tuesday, Xinhua news agency reported.

As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, the earthquake had damaged 155,393 buildings in Gansu province, according to data from the provincial earthquake relief headquarters.

According to the China Seismological Network Center (CENC), the earthquake occurred on Monday at 23:59 Beijing time, its hypocenter was located at a depth of 10 km. The epicenter of the tremors was located in the village of Liugou, approximately 8 km from the administrative center of the above-mentioned county.
