Death toll from bombing at political rally in Pakistan rises to 44

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The death toll from an explosion in the Pakistani district of Bajaur near the border with Afghanistan during a political rally has increased to 44 people, Sky News reports..

"At least 44 people were killed in an explosion at a political rally, and about 200 people, including children, were injured," the report said.

It is noted that the death toll may still increase, as many of the victims are in critical condition.

Earlier it was reported about 35 victims and 100 wounded.

The explosion occurred on Sunday during a congress of supporters of the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami (recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation), but before its high-ranking leaders arrived there. The attack was carried out by a suicide bomber. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
