Death toll from 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Sichuan rises to 95

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 3:00 PM on Tuesday, 95 people have been confirmed dead, and 130 others have been injured of varying degrees in the aftermath of a 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck on Tuesday at 9:05 AM Beijing time in the Dingji/Tingri County of Shigatse City, in the Tibet Autonomous Region (Southwest China), Xinhuanet reports.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Tzogo Township of Dingji County. Within a 20-kilometer radius of the epicenter, there are 27 villages with a population of about 6,900 people. Official figures show that the total population of Dingji County exceeds 61,000 people.

Over 3,400 rescuers and more than 340 medical workers have been sent to the affected area.

According to the meteorological service’s forecast, the weather in Dingji County is expected to be mostly sunny for the next three days, with minimum temperatures ranging from -18°C to -14°C.
