Czech Foreign Minister visits Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On 22 October 2024, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský visited Uzbekistan.

His program began with a lecture at the University of World Diplomacy and Economics, where he trains future diplomats. Addressing a full auditorium, the minister shared his diplomatic experiences, discussed the significance of his trip to Central Asia, and presented the Czech perspective on geopolitical events, particularly regarding Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Uzbekistan is one of the key partners for the Czech Republic in Central Asia, having signed a framework agreement for expanded cooperation. Lipavský discussed these matters during meetings with Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Jamshid Khojaev and in negotiations with Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.

Minister Jan Lipavský emphasized that the importance of mutual relations is complemented by cooperation within Central Asia, particularly Uzbekistan’s engagement with the European Union.

Lipavský stated: "The European Union understands that the Central Asian region plays an increasingly important role. It is also vital for Uzbekistan and the entire region to play a larger role in the Global Gateway initiative, which aims to build more sustainable relationships between the EU and the world. We all recognize how crucial this is, especially at this time."

At the conclusion of the talks, the heads of the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic signed a memorandum of mutual cooperation.
