Current issues in Uzbek-Japanese trade, economic, and financial-technical cooperation discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On 29-31 October, Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov held a series of meetings in Tokyo with Japanese officials, heads of financial institutions, and major companies.

The discussions focused on key issues in Uzbek-Japanese trade, economic, and financial-technical cooperation, establishing specific steps to further expand industrial collaboration and trade across various economic sectors.

Notably, agreements were reached in talks with Yoji Muto, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and Tetsuo Saito, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. These include increased collaboration in minerals, chemicals, engineering, and energy.

Additionally, the parties agreed to work on updating construction standards, ensuring seismic safety, and implementing advanced public transport management systems. A business mission of Japanese IT companies will be organized to establish partnerships with Tashkent’s IT-Park in outsourcing, and Uzbekistan will participate in the 2027 International Horticulture EXPO in Yokohama.

A three-year cooperation program with JBIC was signed, offering non-sovereign financing for Japanese projects in Uzbekistan.

Together with JICA, a program was adopted to develop new projects in engineering workforce training, establishing an industrial technopark, and launching the "One District – One Product" initiative to train the population in entrepreneurial skills.

Companies such as Sojitz, Toyota Tsusho, Sumitomo, Jogmec, and Itochu will participate in joint industrial and infrastructure development projects, including through public-private partnerships.

Overall, the visit highlighted the high level of trust from Japanese government and business circles in Uzbekistan’s investment climate and their readiness to engage actively in investment projects and direct collaboration with Uzbek entrepreneurs.
