Uzbekistan 05/02/2009 CSTO summit held in Moscow

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov participated in the extraordinary session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, held on 4 February in Moscow, Russia.

The security factor is the basis of development. No country may consider itself insured from the influence of the global threats and challenges. These include terrorism, extremism, separatism, illegal drug and arms trade and others.

In such conditions, further expansion of cooperation of the CSTO member countries to identify, prevent and neutralize the named threats acquires a special importance, UzA reported.

Presidents of Uzbekistan, Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan participated in the session. The main issue on the agenda was creation of the Collective Fast Reaction Forces within the CSTO.

The leaders expressed the need to deeply consider the structure and the duties of the forces to be formed. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov stressed the importance consideration of the national interests and legislation, as well as regional realities.
