Cotton fiber processing volume in Uzbekistan reaches 100% - President

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has increased its cotton fiber processing volume to 100%. This was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his address to participants of the joint conference of the International Federation of Textile Manufacturers and the International Apparel Manufacturers Association, held in Samarkand.

The President highlighted that, as in other sectors, Uzbekistan is undertaking large-scale reforms in the textile industry and apparel production.

"First and foremost, the state monopoly on cotton cultivation has been abolished. A cluster system has been introduced and is continuously being improved, covering the entire process from raw material collection to finished product release," he noted.

Mirziyoyev also emphasized that Uzbekistan’s reforms in this area have received recognition from international organizations, and the boycott of Uzbek cotton has been lifted. Collaboration with the international coalition Cotton Campaign continues.

According to the President, due to the establishment of a stable legislative framework, improvement in the investment climate, and the adoption of modern technologies, the volume of cotton fiber processing has increased from 40% in 2017 to 100%.

The President added that Uzbekistan has started importing raw cotton and producing high-quality products with high added value.

"As a result of the created opportunities, textile production has increased fivefold, and exports have grown fourfold," Mirziyoyev emphasized. Previously, 70% of exports were raw materials, but today 60% of exported products are finished goods.

The President also noted that Uzbekistan is making active efforts to create national brands and attract well-known international trademarks.

Leading global companies such as Teamdress (Germany), Cotonella (Italy), Indorama (Singapore), Posco International, and Gwangyang (South Korea) are successfully operating in Uzbekistan.

Mirziyoyev highlighted that Uzbekistan’s textile industry is actively integrating into global manufacturing processes, and the number of reliable international partners continues to grow.
