Cooperation with Japan in the field of science to reach a new level

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 December, Minister of Innovation Development Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov met in Tokyo with the president of the Japan Agency for Science and Technology, Michinari Hamaguchi.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of further strengthening relations between the two countries in the field of science and education, as well as bringing cooperation to a new level.

Following the talks, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Ministry of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It is worth noting that the Japan Agency for Science and Technology operates under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan and is one of the main state bodies in the field of commercialization of new technologies and financing of fundamental research based on the tasks set by the government in the field of science and technology .

Within the framework of this document, measures are envisaged to include the Ministry of Innovation Development into the global research council. The Global Research Council is a virtual organization that includes the leaders of R&D financial institutions around the world. It supports best practices to ensure a high level of cooperation between financial institutions around the world, serves for the mutual exchange of data.

In addition, Uzbek scientists and specialists organized an exchange of experience in the field of science and technology within the framework of the Sakura Science Plan program of Tokyo University of Art. An exchange of scientific personnel is carried out in the field of restoration of cultural and architectural monuments.

A large-scale partnership will be established with the SATREPS program, implemented in collaboration with the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The SATREPS program will carry out research projects aimed at solving the problems of the Aral Sea and water resources in the field of agriculture, irrigation, meteorology and medicine. Within the framework of this project, direct investment is envisaged through the allocation of US$1 million to Uzbekistan.

Michinari Hamaguchi, in turn, said the agency was prepared to fund an exchange of students and researchers in engineering and technology in collaboration with Nagoya University.
