Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 May, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva held a meeting with the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Executive Director of UN Women Sima Sami Bahous.

During the meeting, attention was paid to the practical results of large-scale reforms carried out jointly with UN Women to ensure gender equality and protect the rights and interests of women.

Sima Sami Bahous noted the high level of organization of the Asian Women’s Forum, which was held on the basis of proposals by the President of the country made at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, and fully supported the proposal to hold it every two years in Uzbekistan.

At the same time, it was noted that the country supports women’s labor rights and their entrepreneurial activities, and provides large-scale benefits to women in this area.

She highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s initiative to establish dialogue with women leaders of Central Asian countries, as well as the fruitful activities of the Republican Commission for Gender Equality to empower all women.

The parties expressed their readiness to consider signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Republican Commission for Gender Equality and UN Women, as well as to develop and approve a joint road map.

UN Women expressed its readiness to assist in the implementation of initiatives aimed at supporting women, including improving legislation.

The issue of opening a representative office of UN Women in our country was also discussed and further tasks were identified.

At the end of the meeting, which was held in a friendly and constructive spirit, the importance of continuing the systemic dialogue was recognized.
