Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The company "Regional Electric Networks" has responded to social media reports regarding payment restrictions for electricity due to outstanding debts for waste disposal services.
As per a presidential decree, starting from 1 June 2024, Uzbekistan planned to introduce restrictions on electricity payments for consumers with overdue payments for solid waste removal. Initially, this system was to be implemented in Tashkent, then in Nukus and other regional centers from 1 November, and nationwide from 2025.
Consumers with debts were to receive notifications via SMS, and in October, "Regional Electric Networks" began sending these notifications from the short number 2100. However, the company clarified that for now, they are only notifying consumers and not restricting electricity payments, as legal amendments regarding electricity, consumer rights, and contracts between energy companies and consumers are still pending.
Some social media users have reported receiving notifications about garbage collection debts, despite having no outstanding balances. In such cases, consumers are advised to contact waste collection services.
"Regional Electric Networks" explained that the notifications are based on data provided by the Ministry of Ecology of Uzbekistan.
